    • I am proud of the focus. I always worry that after download I will see that something I want to be in focus is not in focus after all—even if I’ve chimped, zoomed in, right after taking it. This photograph is a bit too predictable to be one of my favorites, but that rock was so unusual, and it had that cool leaf on it. I don’t know what I could have done with them to make a less expected photograph that still showcases both the leaf and the rock.

      • Oh, and thanks, Ken, for letting me know you find this your favorite. There’s one more photograph in this batch, but I predict that you’ll like today’s better.

  3. What beautiful balance! I wasn’t sure if it was wood or rock, which is a bonus in my mind – it keeps me wondering (until I read the tags). I don’t know what else you could have done either, and I don’t care if it seems predictable, because that rock really isn’t a predictable background, is it? And the focus is so clear and even across the whole picture. Very pleasing.

    • Thanks, Lynn. I’m glad the photo pleases you. I thought about identifying the surface as rock above the image, but decided I preferred the ambiguity (until people read the tags). I’m sure the rock is shale, but it’s unlike any shale I’ve seen in the area.

  4. That is a beauty! The rock is so detailed and the colours so attractive, and yet it is still the leaf that takes centre stage. A great image, Linda

  5. Thank you, Andy. Light always does define contours, but in the case of this leaf, it does it in a big way. Post-processing was really minimal on this image.
