Silo As Icon 1
August 22, 2016
Yesterday morning I took out the car and the camera and wandered. I found a park I’d never visited, let alone ever heard of: Caley Reservation. Since the demise in family farms, many old silos around here have been abandoned. Such was the fate of this structure—or would have been had the good people at Lorain County Metro Parks not seen the value in letting it stand as a piece of sculpture. I spent some time exploring it.
Lovely and built to stand the weather and time

I agree, Patricia. Isolating it like this, while unnatural, lets you see the beauty of the silo more easily.

I rarely see silos built of these bricks. Interesting, and I’m glad they left it – smart thing to do.

I agree. This morning I saw its twin north of Oberlin. It’s also the only remnant of a farmyard.
