Purple—and Orange and Black—Coneflower

The purple coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea) have almost finished flowering on Wildflower Hill. But the plants have not stopped being interesting. Here they are in several stages. The black stage is a natural part of the plant’s life cycle, not caused by disease.
