I’m happy to report that the spring 2015 issue of the Oberlin College alumni magazine has included mention of my book, They Breathe Iron, along with two photos from the book. Something seems to have happened to the color of the photos in the online version of the magazine, so I’ll show you how the images should look:

Congratulations, Linda. Outstanding images.

Thanks, Ken. I think this completes my 15 minutes of fame. But I’ll keep photographing this stuff as long as I’m able to hold a camera and balance on the surrounding rocks at the same time.

Thanks, Kathy. It’s funny that when you put something aside a hundred times and then finally finish it, it counts as endurance. 😉

Thank you, Andy. It’s a good thing I have this blog so that I have some place to put all the photos of the iron bacteria that I take from here on in.

Congratulations on the book and on the mention in the magazine – those magazine pics look like maybe they were glamour shots…?

Thank you, Melinda. Yeah, but all the shots of Leptothrix discophora are glamour shots . . . It can’t help itself. Well, I guess some of the younger films are more subtle, just pale silvery blue . . .
