Across the street from the salvage yard stands an old building that has fascinated me for years. It’s sided in metal, some of it corrugated and some not. In this shot you see both varieties of siding.
Thank you, Ken. I’m glad someone likes the palm there. Indoctrinated since childhood with images of ideal, pristine palm trees, I was shocked when I first started coming to Florida to see how cruddy they can look—including being populated by various sorts of vines that die off before the palm does—and how they shed their large fronds to mess up the roadways. If I could have gotten this shot without the crummy palm tree in front, I would have. I just love that circle and the way it’s surrounded by the corrugation. But then I’ve always been partial to shininess.
I love that palm too, which point to a strange two-legged animal with one leg longer than the other in the middle of that right metal hemisphere. Do you see that?
Working my way back through at least a week of your photos, this is just amazing, the way everything just fits into the composition. Maybe the rough bark and sharp-edged leaves make a more interesting image than if it had only been the metal – I love that circle for itself too, but the counterpoint here is great.

The corrigated with the palm in the foreground is a great combination, not to mention whatever is hiding behind that circle.
