Snow, Freezing Rain, Ice, Sleet, Ice, Sun

Ah, weather. It can be so interesting. Our snow gave way to a parade of precipitation. I’d like to say that I was out in it to take these photographs, but that’s only true for the first three. For the rest I stood, warm and dry, at my back window.

Romancing Reality 
Nice going. Apart from #7 and #8, we wouldn’t have known that you kept cozy while taking all the pictures past the first three if you hadn’t told us so. In that first trio, #3 particularly grabbed me.

Thanks, Steve. I wonder when I’ll have another chance to take the kind of snow photos as #s 1, 2, and 3. Today the temperature got to 60 degrees. Our snow exists only as scraps now.

And the icicles that I got to play with for two days a couple of weeks ago is long gone now. It hit 84° here this afternoon.

Wonderful series, Linda! Nr6 is great with the horizontal rhythm and the DOF-use! I’m a bit jealous; we have only hard winds and rain drifting by..

These are nice Linda. Staying warm and dry got you just as interesting photos as being out there. Probably because you have such a good eye for composition.

The back window, why not? 😉 I confess that I still like the first three best. The closeup is nice, too, for its interesting composition. The screen shots ( 🙂 ) are pure LindaG. I love the second one. What an old beauty that tree in the last photos is. Wishing you calm weather inside and just interesting enough weather outside…

Glad I pleased you with the first three, Lynn. 😉 I think if I had gotten outside to search for more ice photographs, I might have made more interesting ice photos. Ah well. I just didn’t want to post photos from the archives again. The last three photographs are of the same tree. It’s a beaut. So we can look forward to snow photos from you?

No snow photos here – it was a graupel kind of stuff that came down, extremely crunchy underfoot, not deep, with a strange texture. Not something one could easily capture with a photo. Really the best part of this one was the noise it made underfoot – loud, loud crunching. It won’t melt fast with 20-something temps tonight. There are strong winds now so I’ll be happy if we don’t lose power.
It’s interesting how the icicles all hang down at the same angle for about the same length on that tree, which is attractive in #4. And blowing it up, what beautiful detail there is in #2 – I’m sure a local wildflower person would know what those flowers are – assuming they’re wild. Some kind of coneflower maybe. With the single Queen Anne’s Lace it’s really nice.

Thanks, Lynn. I’m sorry about your snow. Maybe you’ll get some good stuff yet. Yes, I should ask my local wildflower person what that plant is. OK, I just did. He says it’s in the sunflower family and could be a coneflower, but he can’t tell for sure.

Thanks, Sandy. I kept returning to the window all day to see what was happening with the ice. I was surprised it lasted so long and very happy that it lasted into the sunshine.

I’ve felt pretty good about being able to go into the back or front yard for shots but to be able to stand at the back door is even better. 🙂 And except for the screens no one would be the wiser without you revealing that. It’s a very nice series of images and, of course, full of the variety we see through a changing winter storm. I am partial to numbers 1-3 but enjoyed them all, Linda.

Thank you, Steve. The ice on the trees was more spectacular seen just with my naked eyes. Through the viewfinder, I couldn’t see it at all. Processing had me bumping highlights way up to see them. Tricky stuff.

Your first 3 are what captures my eye whenever I’m in a field of snow. I love the brown/white contrast and the minimalism the blank canvas provides. Very well seen here, Linda!

Thank you, Joe. I sort of miss the snow, though I may have milked as many weeds-in-the-snow photographs as possible. Still, I could try . . . Not sure the snow will be back like that however.
