    your fascination w this phenomenon reminds me of my own enchantment w mother of pearl. they’re similar in appearance.

    • Yes, both are iridescent. Color interference plays a role in creating the colors. Have you seen this website: http://www.webexhibits.org/causesofcolor/15B.html? I think I’ve been fascinated by iridescence since I was a child. And my high-school physics project—many many years ago—is what introduced me to interference colors.
