Had to Get Myself Back to the Garden 10
July 27, 2016
Continuing my walk northward along the river, I found a great patch of Leptothrix discophora. It was worth crossing the river to find. My shoes show the extent of the film. Details in the next few days.
Those wonderful colours again that remind me of an oil or petrol spillage.

They’re such a treat, aren’t they? You know how to tell the difference, don’t you. When you run a stick through an oil or petrol film, the colors just run back together again. When you run a stick through a film created by Leptothrix discophora, the film shatters. You’ll see some shattered parts of this film in the close-up shots posted in the next three days.

Yes, quite a patch, and I wonder if I saw it in real life, whether I’d know it wasn’t a film of oil and gas. I’m not sure.

But you know the test, right? See my response to Andy’s comment above. BTW, the iron bacteria are in all 50 states, so it is likely that you will see a Leptothrix discophora film some day.
