Linda Grashoff's Photography Adventures

In Mr. Schoepfle’s Garden, April 2016—5

May 12, 2016

The photographs in this and the next two posts show the result of my playing with the Silver Efex Pro 2 software, which, with the rest of the Nik software collection, recently became free. I knew when I saw these plant stalks that I would need to do something in processing the photographs to accentuate their line quality. I knew the finished photos would have to be black and white, but I didn’t know what else. Some time after I got home I remembered about Silver Efex, which I’d almost forgotten about. After some going back and forth between Silver Efex and Lightroom, I think I at least approximated the feeling I had when seeing these stalks. You can tell the difference between the final processing and the minimal processing in the pair below.

  1. I’m attracted to these all-over patterns, too, and black and white makes sense. Zooming in on the upper left third would be even more abstract – around where the stalks make an X…might be fun to try!

    • Yes, I can see what you see, Lynn. Won’t take the time now to play with it any more though. Still going through downsizing in preparation for the great move.
