In Mr. Schoepfle’s Garden, April 2016—5

The photographs in this and the next two posts show the result of my playing with the Silver Efex Pro 2 software, which, with the rest of the Nik software collection, recently became free. I knew when I saw these plant stalks that I would need to do something in processing the photographs to accentuate their line quality. I knew the finished photos would have to be black and white, but I didn’t know what else. Some time after I got home I remembered about Silver Efex, which I’d almost forgotten about. After some going back and forth between Silver Efex and Lightroom, I think I at least approximated the feeling I had when seeing these stalks. You can tell the difference between the final processing and the minimal processing in the pair below.
I’m attracted to these all-over patterns, too, and black and white makes sense. Zooming in on the upper left third would be even more abstract – around where the stalks make an X…might be fun to try!

Yes, I can see what you see, Lynn. Won’t take the time now to play with it any more though. Still going through downsizing in preparation for the great move.
