Experiments with Autumn
November 2, 2013
When I walked down to the river this past Sunday, I played around with moving the camera while tripping the shutter. Most results were pretty terrible, but I rather liked others. Here are some of the ones I liked. The last one is two shots layered together. One shot was without camera movement, and the other was with camera movement. Please click on these images; they look best large. Still, these may not be to everyone’s taste, as I learned from a nameless person who just now saw them on my computer. My inspiration for experimenting this way is the stunning work of Karen McRae and Chris Friel; you must look at what they do.

Outstanding!!!

Thanks, Ken. I think it’s an acquired taste, but I’m glad you’ve acquired it.

Love these! They make me think of hand-dyed silk. If that makes any sense.

Oh, I know what you mean! (Hadn’t thought of that.) That kind of patterned silk is called ikat. Here is a pair of pants made out of it that I found by Googling: http://www.lyst.com/clothing/haute-hippie-floral-ikat-print-silk-drawstring-pants-multi/#fullscreen=img23402755. And here is the Wikipedia entry on ikat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikat

Hi Linda,
I like the effect and it looks like you are having fun playing with different things. Agree with Tamara’s comment about the hand-dyed silk. I like the first image best – there is a watercolor quality to it.

Hi, Ken. Yes, I see that watercolor quality, too. I resisted for so long using any photographic technique that was obvious in the final image, but this one has captured me. I don’t know yet whether it will be a temporary affair or a deep commitment for me.

These are tricky to pull off as I know from my own efforts but I think you have some fascinating images here Linda. Well done.

Linda, these are really cool. That first one reminds me of pattered silk, too.
Beautiful!
