Asheville This Year

September 15, 2013

When I drive back north from Florida I go through North Carolina, stopping one year to visit with my friend Erika and the next year with my friend Kathie. This year it was Kathie, who lives in Asheville. Kathie is a weaver  and one morning, letting her get some work done, I ventured out with my camera toward the old side of town. I had my hopes set on finding interesting buildings, and I found some, but I also found a parking lot that just couldn’t be ignored. Another unexpected treat came in the form of a paper-recycling facility. I have to admit, as much as I support paper recycling, when I saw the piles of shapes and textures, I kept thinking, “Someone could make something from all this wonderful stuff!”

    • Thank you, Andy. I’m a big believer in going to the same place over and over (the way I go to the Vermilion River), but sometimes I think I need a new place to jog my eye.

      • I think we always benefit from a change of scene. But it is also true that re-visiting a well known place, particularly at a different time of the year can really trigger a fresh bout of creativity.
