Traveling Inland: Little Manatee River State Park

August 16, 2013

Janet and I drove inland to the Little Manatee River State Park April 21. It’s not all that far inland, but still far away enough away from the coast to have a different feel to it. Not only did we see different plants, but the light also seems different. Like the water in the Myakka River, the water in the Little Manatee has a lot of tannin in it, so when it flows over the sandy bottom, the river looks orange.

For years one of the things I have admired about many of Art Murphy’s photographs is the look that parts of the image are glowing. I have tried to achieve that effect on my own but haven’t succeeded. Today I finally Googled “Lightroom Glow Effect” and found step-by-step instructions at ProjectWoman.com.  I followed her instructions for the fourth photograph here. I’m still no Art Murphy, but I’ll continue to work on this technique.
