Iron Chair, Ironweed, Iron Bacteria
September 4, 2011
I’ve looked at this iron chair and its shadow on the outside wall of the Schoepfle Garden administrative building for at least three weeks running, thinking there must be a photo in them. Saturday I finally found my composition. . . . Last week I talked about Ironweed, but didn’t show you what it looks like up close. As I walked down the hill toward the river I came across a towering specimen of it blooming in a sea of Wingstem (Actinomeris alternifolia), all taller than I am. . . . The river was low, so a little later I crossed over to the other side and found some Leptothrix discophora but also rocks, leaves, and fallen trees.
