Shale on the Other Shore, Again

July 7, 2012

The river was deeper today, due to storms we had earlier in the week. I crossed over to the other side but not without trepidation, owing to faster current and new silt making the riverbed slipperier and more treacherous than it had been lately. The weather was too hot; I drove rather than walk to the river today, and I began thinking about the air conditioning in my car long before I returned to it. I should curtail my greediness and be glad to have even one photo to share . . .  Many of you will recognize the silvery-blue film in this photograph as that of Leptothrix discophora.
