For over a decade this little stump in South Lido Park has fascinated me. In this portrait it seems to be holding out little arms beseeching a hug. Other views of it are here and here and here and here and here and here.

  1. This is a wonderful story you have with this stump! I looked at your other photos too, and I feel the urge to send some love to this stump and hope it will eventually have the chance to die a natural, graceful death, following the pace of nature.

    • Thanks, Gunilla. I can’t help feeling that what you’ve written is what we humans would like, too: love and the chance to die a natural, graceful death, following the pace of nature. That’s beautifully written. Thank you.

      • Wow… I realise that this is the way my mother passed away more than two years ago. With disease, but still, in a natural way, at the pace of the disease. We were with her, and yes, it was graceful – perhaps that memory coloured my comment. She loved nature, too, was a dedicated gardener, knowing all about the yearly cycle of life and death. She too would have been able to grow a connection to a stump, just like you have! A graceful way of living, I would say.
