  1. One of my favourite colours – but I can never decide whether it is a shade of green, blue, or turquoise

    • I’ve solved that problem for myself, Andy, by calling it verdigris. Oops, just now saw that Wikipedia calls verdigris “a green pigment.” Well, it’s not green to me. I’ll just keep calling it verdigris and forget I ever went to Wikipedia about it. Calling this dumpster verdigris may be something of a compliment; I doubt that it’s made of copper.

  2. I think this is at the top of my list for dumpsters. I’m viewing this on an uncalibrated Chromebook monitor and it looks green(ish) to me. But it’s nitpicking since it’s such a great shot anyway.

    • Thanks, Ken. Well, it is greenISH, but I refuse to call it green. I will call it verdigris until I am forced to give up that appellation on pain of [something].

          • πŸ˜‰ 😊 Looks like there is a “touch keyboard” icon in Win 10 with emojis. Easy as cake! 😁

            • Actually, WordPress changes “:-)” to πŸ™‚ without your having to do it. But that and “;-)” are the only emoji they change automatically, I think. I’m on a Mac, so can’t do the others as easily as you can. I hope Apple is listening. Incidentally, you drove me to Google “plural of emoji” when I realized I wanted to write “emoji” for the plural version even though you had written “emojis.” I’m sticking with “emoji.” See https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/01/whats-the-plural-of-emoji-emojis/422763/.

  3. This one is beautiful, the weathering, the stain and that….other color. πŸ™‚
My mother and I used to have a running disagreement about shades between blue and green. She tended to see them as more green, I saw them as more blue. They must have all been blue-green. I like the verdigris epithet because it sounds well educated. πŸ™‚
This color appears in the mountains around here, in the water. Very beautiful.

    • In the water? Wow. I used to have arguments with a friend about turquoise and aqua. I said turquoise was more blue and aqua more green, and she said the opposite. I must admit that it wasn’t that many years ago that I had to look up the meaning of verdigris. But boy did I latch on to it when I learned!
