At the Venice Myakka River Park—3

The green plants at the bottom of this photograph are water lettuce, one of the species of Pistia. If you’ve watched my blog very long, you know what the iridescent film in back of it is: my old pal Leptothrix discophora. I don’t see it very often in Florida, but this lagoon is still water, and there must be iron in it, so it has grown enough to produce a visible biofilm.

oooh, yummy. love blue and green combos.
