A very satisfying image – the texture of the road surface is so well defined and the composition is well thought out. I’ve looked at this hard and that angled white line top Rt corner is disproportionately important. Physically it’s the smallest element and yet try cropping it out or imagine that line absent and replaced by bare tarmac, and the image loses something that is actually rather important. Was that your thinking too, Linda?
Well, Andy, I’d like to say yes. But I photograph more intuitively (sloppily?) than that. I zoomed in; I zoomed out. I looked through the viewfinder in one direction, and moved around to look in another and another and another. I took three shots. One much like this one, and one with the arrows parallel to the horizon. This one won. So I can’t say the composition was “well thought out,” though I’m glad it looks that way. I do like that angled white line, but I would have taken the photograph even if it hadn’t been there. Of course then you would not have liked it as well. 😉 Thank you for your close reading of this photograph.
