Cold-Weather Alternative
February 25, 2013
A week ago Sunday it was too cold outside for Janet and me, so we went to Lowe’s to see if we could find anything to photograph inside. It was fun roaming the aisles with a photography intent. I don’t even know what the things in the first photograph are—just didn’t look at the sign. Husband David thinks they are called bazooka sprayers, but I didn’t get very far when I tried Googling that notion. Maybe one of you knows? The third photograph is rebar—I knew that. But I didn’t know that the wire in the second photograph is also rebar until David told me. . . . There I go with rust again.

Love the black and white that appears to be stainless or polished aluminum salt shakers. Nice focus and tonal range. It pops. Thanks for sharing.

They do look like salt shakers, don’t they. But they aren’t. The part with the holes was attached to a stalk about 18 inches or two feet long.

Spaghetti strainers? These make me want to take my camera to Lowe’s.

I hope you’ll share if you do! (See my reply to Andy about the size of these things.)

They look like watering wands to me. Neat photos! I’m sharing through Facebook, so don’t be surprised with extra traffic from Madison.

Thanks, Tamara. I’m remembering (not a safe thing for me to do) that the “stalks” are only about 5/8 inch in diameter. Does that seem a reasonable diameter for water to go through on its way to a sprayer head? Maybe so.

My first thought with that first shot was that they were steamers to sit on top of a saucepan of boiling water for steaming Vegetables, but I’m probably way off target. Difficult without a sense of scale. And yes: I love the rusted iron in shot 3!

The things with the holes in them are about two and a half inches in diameter, so they can’t be vegetable steamers. I see that I’m going to have to go back to Lowe’s. Glad you’re still with me on the rust, Andy.

I love the sparkles of the rolls of plastic something. Has a hint of the glitter and glam of the red carpet or maybe night skies and twinkling stars…
The sprayer things could be for watering, 5/8″ is a hose diameter. Could you see the bottom end? hose attachment? I have to go to Lowes soon so maybe I’ll see some.

Yea! You saw what I saw in those plastic rug protectors, Patricia. I probably could see the bottom ends of those (possibly) sprayer things, but I didn’t pay any attention. Glad to know that 5/8 inch is a hose size. Let me know if you see these.
