Cortez, Again

April 17, 2012

Janet and I went back to Cortez again Sunday. I sure do love Cortez. This time I especially loved a large diesel tank, presumably used to pump diesel fuel into the fishing vessels. But there was more, as usual. The last two photographs feature a different tank. The penultimate photo is from this Sunday; the last is one I took February 21, 2010. The older photo always makes me think of Jacque-Louis David’s The Death of Marat. How’s that for conceit?

  1. A great set of imags, Linda. Great variety and each one special. That first one is my favourite – just such simple clean lines.

Thanks, Andy. I was just mesmerized by that diesel tank. I’m sure that much of its beauty relied on the way the light was hitting it just then. From certain angles it almost glowed. I’ve been hungering for “simple clean lines” lately and was so happy to find them Sunday. Glad the photo came across to you the way I saw it.

Thank you, Bente Haarstad! I looked at your website and blog, too. Very nice! When I was a little girl, my grandmother’s cousin visited Chicago from Bergen. She knit me a pair of mittens like the ones you show on your home page.

    • Hello, unsothernbelle. I just now noticed that I never responded to your kind comments, made nearly two years ago. Thank you so much.

I love the composition, colors and evocation in 024. It has an oriental feel for me especially the “tree” cracks along the wall

    • Thank you, Patricia. That “wall” is actually a cylindrical tank of some sort, lying on its side. I wonder what it will look like next winter. I hope no one paints over the cracks before I get there again.
