Cattle-Auction Ruins in Arcadia

January 27, 2012

Janet and I and another woman in our photography meetup group drove out to Arcadia two Sundays ago. Arcadia is a town about an hour inland from Sarasota that has seen better days. We were looking for abandoned buildings and found the ideal spot after only 10 minutes or so of riding around the town. Googling makes me think it’s where cattle auctions were held between 1939 and 2004, when Hurricane Charlie roared through the area. We had to duck through a hole in the chain-link fence to get in and kept wondering if the police would find us and yell at us. (They didn’t.)

This is a really nice little portfolio. Very well done and worth printing (large).
