The weekend before this past one, I was in the Denver area for a few days visiting relatives. They live in the Red Rocks vicinity, and I could walk to an interesting formation from their house. The neighborhood calls it an amphitheater, and they use it for weddings and other gatherings. My sister-in-law said that some archeological work done on the site indicated that the space was used by earlier people, too. I kept trying to imagine myself as one of them. The first photo shows the whole formation as seen from the cliff in back of my sister-in-law’s house. The next six photos are from inside that empty-looking spot. The last three photos are from the Red Rocks Park, a 20-minute drive from my sister-in-law’s. It also has an amphitheater. Above the red rock there you can see Denver in the distance. The last photo shows the size of this other amphitheater, about 10 times the size of the Willowbrook Amphitheater. It has been used for music performances since at least the 1920s.
