Nature in Cortez

Just steps away from the rusty, paint-peely, weathered surfaces I like in Cortez so much is an area being developed as a nature preserve by the Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage—F.I.S.H., a non-profit, grassroots organization. Piles of (gorgeous) junk have been cleared away, native grasses planted, and paths created. At the far reaches of this area lies a small body of water containing a lot of tannins. The lagoon (or whatever it’s really called) looks very dark, similar to the Back Pond at the Schoepfle Garden in Ohio, making for a nicely reflective surface. I’ve taken many photographs similar to this one, and most have been of the Schoepfle Garden Back Pond. Still, there’s something a little bit different about this one.
