Since June I’ve been dealing with the pandemic, as have we all, and with a range of disruptions closer to home. It’s been a difficult few months, and I hope I’m now back on track with many things, including this blog. The photographs below are ones taken in my immediate neighborhood in early June.

Thank you, Adrian. As you know, at least I have been looking at other people’s blogs during my hiatus. It’s good to be adding to my own now. We had a flood in our living unit and had to live somewhere else for two months while all our floors were relaid. Lost my three very large photo prints and other artwork. Stresser on top of stresser, I’m afraid. But I feel back on track now. And I can have the photos reprinted if I choose.

Thanks, Clare. Yes, dumpsters can be a joy—except when they are too new. A not-new one appeared at Kendal last week that I haven’t explored yet.

It’s great to have you back, Linda. Your vision is like no other and I missed it. I’m drawn to the 6th dumpster photo, for the caution sign and where it’s placed relative to the worn surface – which is probably what you liked – and the footprints, so funny. Raccoons? The arch shape leads right into the arched limb on the tree in the next photo. 🙂 That photo is so unromanticized, so “just this” and that appeals to me. There’s a tension between the beauty of the scene and the simplicity of the composition somehow – it’s hard to articulate. I’m glad you included the daisies – did you waffle on that? I love them. 🙂

Yes, raccoons. Many many dumpsters have their footprints. I am glad you noticed the carry-through of the arch. I was so hoping someone would. It’s interesting that you use the word “unromanticized” to describe # 7. Should I change the name of this blog to Unromancing Reality? 😉 I sure did waffle on the daisies, not while photographing them—I knew I wanted to do that—but in deciding to post them. The photo is pretty banal, but I really like daisies, so I indulged myself.

Very happy to see another post from you, Linda. It’s been tough on so many during the pandemic. We have been lucky. Despite being among the first and having had great numbers of incidences our state did allow for us to get out into nature so things were not as drastic. As well, the majority of our population adhered to the advice to keep the virus at bay and although we still have large numbers of infected we are managing to keep business going, school attended either in person or virtually, and some semblance of normalcy.
You see amazing beauty in things that most of us would pass by although I must say that, thanks to you, I am looking at dumpsters more fondly. 🙂

It was a great year for ice. Not so much for snow but we did have some cold weather although not very often below zero. Our water levels are quite low due to the drought but we are getting more rain so maybe there will be good ice again.
