Meanwhile, here are some more spent palm fronds on the forest floor.

I appreciate the design of this image. Groups of 3s or 5s, etc., always work well by using “odd” numbers.

Thanks, Barry. I have to admit that I always aim for elements in my photographs to appear in groups of three, five, or seven, but sometimes it depends on how you count. Three light-colored fronds here, but three darker ones, too, making six fronds. The three light ones are more grouped and more visible, so I thought the design worked. Glad you agree.

I’ll have to get back to the discussion later when I can check the links, but just wanted to say that it’s funny, I was thinking about order vs. disorder too when I went through photos of my last walk in the woods. Some were very orderly and fit the classic idea of how one “should” photograph things, (huge generalization here!) and then one in particular was chaotic. But I liked it that way. It’s a big world – room for lots of interpretations. Yours are always tops in my book!

Oh, thank you, Lynn! I’ve been thinking about what nannus said also. I really like the messy look of the Florida forests (which I think of as jungles), especially the way plants grow on top of and twined around other plants. When I photograph the messiness, however, I need to have some kind of what—anchor?—for the composition. Something that isn’t just messy, or it isn’t interesting to me as a photograph. I guess what I’m looking for, in nannus’s terms, is order amid the disorder.
