A Good Sign 5
August 5, 2014
I’ll close this episode of “A Good Sign” with a 2009 photograph of a sign I’m not sure is still standing in Sarasota. It was obviously executed by hand by an old-fashioned sign painter with talent. It’s tempting to say something like, “They don’t paint signs like this anymore,” and strictly speaking that may be true. But look who I found while paging through other WordPress bloggers who have tagged their postings with the word sign. More of Pittsburgh-area-resident Anthony Purcell’s work can be seen on this page of the Steeltown Anthem website along with other interesting sign links, including one to an earlier sign painter, Maurice “Red” O’Donnell. The page about O’Donnell links to yet another about vintage painted wall signs, and that page contains a myriad other related links. Don’t get lost.

Do you mean that everything was towed away…?!
