My friend Jean invited me to walk in a branch of the Myakka River on her property with her today. I must say, whoever gave the defining characteristic of heaven as streets paved with gold hasn’t spent time on Jean’s branch of the Myakka River. The river bed is white sand, and the river water is very tannic, so the river looks cream, yellow, pale gold, intense gold, orange, dark orange, and red overlain with reflections of blue and white (sky), green (foliage), and brown and black (shadows). Before we walked in her river, we spent some time in the Myakka River State Park. The first three photos are from the park, taken at the Myakka River proper.
